Use this Reverse Text Generator to reorder text without changing its font. Paste a phrase or list, choose a mode, and copy the result. The Reverse Text Generator keeps combined emoji and accented characters together.
Choose a Reverse Text Generator mode
The Reverse Text Generator separates four tasks. Here, \n represents a line
break so its position is visible.
| Mode | Input | Output | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reverse entire text | Hello world! | !dlrow olleH | Backwards phrases and puzzle answers |
| Reverse word order | Hello world! | world! Hello | Word arrangement exercises |
| Reverse each word | Hello world! | olleH !dlrow | Spelling games with readable spacing |
| Reverse line order | first\nsecond\n | second\nfirst\n | Lists in the opposite sequence |
In the Reverse Text Generator, a “word” means a non-whitespace token. Punctuation
moves with tokens; it reverses with their letters in each-word mode. For example,
can't becomes t'nac.
How to use the Reverse Text Generator
- Paste the original into the Reverse Text Generator input.
- Choose the unit you want to reverse: everything, words, each word, or lines.
- Check punctuation, line order, and spaces in the preview.
- Copy the result and test it in its destination field.
Changing modes in the Reverse Text Generator reprocesses your original input. To reverse an output again, click Use result as input with the same mode.
Reverse Text Generator rules for spaces and lines
Use the Reverse Text Generator in word-order mode to retain line order and
whitespace slots. With ␠ marking a space, one␠␠two␠three becomes
three␠␠two␠one: the two-space gap stays in the first slot.
Leading spaces, tabs, and blank lines are not trimmed.
Each-word mode in the Reverse Text Generator preserves gaps and line positions, while reversing the visible characters inside every token. Line-order mode moves line contents while retaining the separator slots and a final line break. Blank lines participate in the reversed order. Line boundaries use CRLF, LF, or CR; Unicode U+2028/U+2029 do not create lines.
Entire-text mode in the Reverse Text Generator reverses the complete sequence, including line order. A trailing newline therefore moves to the beginning. To join broken paragraphs before reversing, use Remove Line Breaks.
Why this Reverse Text Generator preserves emoji
The Reverse Text Generator uses the browser's Intl.Segmenter to work with
grapheme clusters: units that approximate what readers perceive as characters.
A family emoji, flag, or letter with a combining accent can contain several
Unicode code points. Splitting JavaScript text into UTF-16 code units can damage
even a single emoji; reversing code points can still separate combined symbols.
Try A👨👩👧👦é in the Reverse Text Generator. Entire-text mode produces
é👨👩👧👦A, preserving the family and the accent. Segmentation follows the
browser's Unicode implementation. If the required API is unavailable, the
Reverse Text Generator shows a compatibility message instead of silently using
a fallback that could break these characters.
See Unicode's grapheme boundary rules and MDN's Intl.Segmenter reference for the technical background.
Reverse Text Generator uses and limits
- Puzzle clues: use the Reverse Text Generator to hide a short answer, with a separate hint explaining the reversal rule.
- Classroom exercises: use the Reverse Text Generator to rearrange words while keeping each line as a separate question.
- List inspection: use the Reverse Text Generator to put the last entry first. Numbering moves with its line without recalculation.
- Text testing: use the Reverse Text Generator with accented names and combined emoji to check rendering in another application.
The Reverse Text Generator changes logical order, not glyph shapes. ABC
becomes CBA; the letters themselves do not become mirror images. For rotated
lookalike characters, try Upside Down Text.
For capitalization alone, use Uppercase to Lowercase.
Reverse Text Generator FAQ
Can the Reverse Text Generator restore backwards text?
For ordinary text, the same mode applied twice restores the original if you make no edits between passes. Unusual sequences can form different grapheme boundaries after moving; keep the source when exact recovery matters.
Does the Reverse Text Generator translate Arabic or Hebrew?
No. It reorders stored text; the browser still applies bidirectional display rules. Reversal is not translation or right-to-left layout. Check mixed letters, digits, and punctuation in the destination app.
Is the Reverse Text Generator an encryption tool?
No. Anyone can reverse the result. Use it for puzzles, never for protecting passwords, confidential messages, or other secrets.
Does the Reverse Text Generator upload my input?
Reversal happens locally in your browser. Tool-use analytics record actions such as starting and copying, not your input or generated output. The page can still make normal requests to load resources and analytics.
Why does copied output look different in another app?
The Reverse Text Generator copies plain text. Destination fonts, text direction, spacing rules, and emoji support can change its appearance. Consult the Unicode compatibility guide and test the exact field before publishing.
Can the Reverse Text Generator reverse rows in a spreadsheet?
It can reorder pasted lines, including tab-separated text. It does not parse quoted CSV fields, preserve spreadsheet formulas, or understand multiline cells. Use a spreadsheet's row tools when those structures matter.
